I’m a living example of the tabletop wargaming ‘tale as old as time,’:
Stage 1. ~8 – 14 years old; loved the hobby, especially the ‘Eavy Metal section of White Dwarf
Stage 2. At 14 years of age I found my penis and forgot everything I’d learned and enjoyed up to that point including tabletop wargaming
Stage 3. By ~30 years old I’d exhausted all practical uses for my penis and had the benefit of some disposable income. Turning 30 had a profound effect on me (I’m 40 now) and really made me confront the brevity and pointlessness of existence. Surely there had to be a way to fulfill whatever higher power created us and make life worthwhile? Ah, of course – pushing plastic beastmen around with a ruler; now we’re talking!
So, I was an enthusiastic WHFB player (Beastmen but also had VCs and WoC) and a keen early adopter of AoS (I credit myself with the invention of Balewind Vortex spam before the GH and summoning nerfed that). However, over time my gaming group have gravitated towards a single system (30K) and now I find myself with only one functioning army (Emperor’s Children). I do have a large collection of Knights but I’m not That Guy.
My real interest in the hobby is tournaments / gaming events as they give me a chance to meet up with my mates and also to showcase painting and modelling. I couldn’t care less about my win / loss record (but I’m hoping to post some content from a good friend who really does care about his soon)
So this blog will be about list writing, modelling, painting and playing for tournaments without any of the worry of winning anything. It’s just for the craic.
Also, I live in a weird place, Georgia (not the cool one where they play the US Masters, the one that’s 20% occupied by Russia, just east of Syria) which is a 4 hour plane journey from the nearest GW store (Warsaw) and has no functioning postal or parcel delivery service so getting hobby supplies is tough (I visit the UK (my homeland) about once every 8 – 12 weeks).
