After the Paul debacle I was glad to play Alex in my last game Another 4K game, my lists are here). I’d not met Alex before but it turns out he’s from Guildford (the town next to where I grew up) so we had a lot in common and he was cool dude.
Alex was running Blood Angels with a couple of ‘Blades of Salty Tears,’ in the list. Lot’s of deep striking. He also allied in a couple of Knights and had some flyers. His list was pretty strong. My lists are here.
The mission was objective camping and camp I did. I made one really big mistake (charged a Knight with my Phoenix Terminators then realised I couldn’t hurt it and lost 5 of them to stomps) and then had one huge slice of luck (somehow 4 Noise Marines beat 15 assault marines in combat and ran them down to retain an objective that secured a draw in the game).
If I was Alex I’d be pretty pissed off with a draw. He was much better than me with a better list – I just camped the objectives and spread my stuff out so he couldn’t focus on running through my lines and got lucky with some assault results.
A great game (I voted this and the game against Pete as my favourites) and a draw was a good way to end the event.
