Lol.
Ok I definitely haven’t completed NMM but you may remember that I levelled up my NMM for the second and third models from a SCE Warhammer Underworlds warband. That meant that the first guy I painted wasn’t so flash. here’s the group shot…

I was planning to leave him like this as a monument to new beginnings (you can read about that here (it’s not hobby related)) but then lockdown hit and I had nothing else to paint. So I bit the bullet and did something I’ve never done before; I repainted a model.
I’m not some kind of stripper.
I don’t get it when people talk about stripping their models (ie. removing the paint so they can repaint a model). How fucking thick was your original paint job?? I love a thin coat of paint so there was no stripping required here, just a couple of coats of black primer applied with a brush and then starting as if nothing had happened. The result?
I’m really pleased with him.
This has become my standard gold recipe for NMM now. It’s a basecoat mix of Balor Brown (Citadel), Black (Vallejo) and Mournfang Brown (Citadel). The wet blinded highlight is Screaming skull. The shadows are glazed with Mournfang Brown and then a second glaze of Mournfang Brown mixed with Black. Some final extreme highlights with pure White (Vallejo). Just for reference here is before and after…
What’s the next step?
I’m stoked with the final result! The new group shot looks really good compared to the old one and I really feel like finding my way back into painting has been really rewarding and relaxing. I don’t want to lose this momentum so I’m looking forward to finishing these guys off. I have some paints on order that should be here around the 17th May but we’ll see. Obviously the World is still chaos right now and I’m not holding out much hope for the postal deadlines. Weirdly my country is no longer in lockdown and the shops are open so I can go to the local GW stockist and buy some more. The paints I have on order are P3 and some Vallejo inks which I can’t buy locally and I’m looking forward to testing out (I’ve not really used P3 very much before).
Anyway, whatever happens, the next step on these guys will probably be the steel NMM. I’ll probably paint all of the steel NMM on all of the dudes before I post for that.
Comments always welcome!
