Apologies for the lack of posts recently, I’ve had a horrible home life for a few weeks. I think that’s all sorted now.
To take some of the stress away I’ve finally been able to sit down and do the last few bits of my Craftworlds army for Heat Three of the 40K GT at WHW in February. The last few units to finish were:
The Windriders

These models went together really nicely and the airbrush is a quick way of getting superficially impressive results. I should have masked better (I have a blue haze everywhere) but they look pretty cool. One issue I do have with them (as with the Farseers) is the really bad flying bases they come with. The nob is too small for the hole (that’s what she said) so they sort of flop around and look weird. Need to fix that.
The Farseers

Again, pretty simple paint job here (wet blended so even though there are few colours there are some nice transitions). The yellow power sword is a bit of a fail but part of the recent horrible home life was both if these models being broken and their weapons snapping so I’m fairly certain these will need to be replaced anyway.
The Wraithknight

Hurrah! I think he’s come out quite well for three colours. Again, wet blending on the guns has made some nice transitions so there’s a bit of interest in the paint job. The spirit stone helps too (I did these on the Wave Serpents as well).
So what’s next?
Well, I never wanted to win any painting awards with these – this army was purely to get another system to play and to have some fun. However, I’m glad I’ve given myself a couple of months before the event as there are some things I can do to progress these. I’ve looked at each unit and noted the two or three things that would make the most immediate impact and I’ve set aside two fortnight blocks between now and the event to do those. It’s mainly decals (which isn’t a five minute job) and freehand (which definitely isn’t a five minute job) but the rangers need a lot more attention.
Other than that they all need another couple of textures on the base and they’re finished.
I really need to get on top of the rules, however, and I’ve found a new resource to help me do that. TableTopTactics is a great resource (freeview on YouTube or there’s a paywall for more content) with the best battle reports I’ve ever seen. Very funny, good banter and the guys themselves are really very, very experienced tournament gamers so the games themselves are very high quality.
Anyway, check them out if you get a chance and any comments are more than welcome!
