Like most 40 year olds, my dreams of being an astronaut or professional cricketer have morphed into ‘rotting in a cubicle for 12 hours a day filling in spreadsheets to make somebody else rich.’ Hobby is a great way to escape this.
Or is it? Since I started this blog and decided to commit to painting and gaming with some new game systems, things have started to overload a bit. I now have a hobby spreadsheet (ugh) to help me manage my painting time around trips back to the UK and events. I need it, but I hate it.
I’ve also had a few mad weeks with work trips, I’m buying a flat and home has been hectic. All of that is sorted now (except the flat) so I will be able to really sit down and crack on.
So what’s on the table right now?
- Finishing the 40K Eldar. Whilst I’ve purchased all the models I need (except an Autarch (one on foot and one on a bike)) but I’m bringing them to Tbilisi in dribs and drabs (so I don’t feel overloaded with models over here, also because of luggage space).
So right now I have 5 Dark Reapers and 10 Rangers left to get up to a 3 colour table top standard (and then to base all the infantry) and then two Wave Serpents to build and paint. This should be done in the next couple of weeks which will give me time to then go back over these models and add more detail (the Rangers in particular are very detailed models).
My next trip to the UK is mid October so I’ll be bringing back the Wraithknight (which I forgot this time – annoying) and the Windriders / Farseers and Autarch(s). My final deadline for this army to be three coloured table top standard is the end of October which doesn’t sound too hard but will depend entirely on getting all the models together!
- Adeptus Titanicus. Tough one this. I’ve got the Grand Master boxed set (sitting in a box in England) and lots of the scenery but haven’t really looked into this game or how I might paint them at all. I do know I want to do a really good job of these guys but I’ve only given myself a couple of months (November and December) to finish them. So, we’ll have to see how that goes. It already feels a bit like Necromunda in that it’s a game I’ll never play but I am looking forward to painting the models very much.
Actually…umh…that’s it. Feels a bit weird to title a post ‘hobby overload,’ when I’ve only got 21 Eldar models and some baby titans to paint. So why am I stressing out? Moments like this are exactly what this blog is for. I’ve realised as I write this that I don’t have anything to stress about what’s on my table. It’s what ISN’T on my table that’s stressing me. I fact it hasn’t even been released yet…
…The goats are coming.
