Kill Team

Ok, I realise that as of 14th March 2019 this is not new news but I think Kill Team looks pretty cool.

After trying to paint NMM gold well I realised that my steel colours (NMM or TMM) are quite poor in comparison and I wanted a project to bring them up to a level. A 5 man Grey Knight Kill Team looks to be the very thing.

Now, if you haven’t looked at Kill Team there are some elements that surprised me.

  1. It’s not for kids. I was expecting this game to be a watered down version of 40K. It’s not. It’s more of a pick up and play version of Necromunda (so no focus on campaigns). It’s moderately complex and should be fun to play
  2. It’s all about the terrain. Now, I don’t have terrain but would like to paint some so I think, eventually, this will give me a good opportunity
  3. It’s (by GW standards) dirt cheap. I’ve written before about how the cost of a GW game system is roughly comparable to other hobbies (golf, cycling etc) in terms of set up and ongoing costs. Kill Team isn’t. It’s insanely affordable. My GK Strike Squad was GBP37.50, the book (which contains all the Kill Teams and points so you’re not buying separate codices) was GBP25. I’m assuming terrain is relatively expensive, quick check….umh well there’s a set on the GW website for about GBP500 which is madness but there are small terrain sets for GBP50. And there’s a ton of terrain makers on the internet.

So for GBP62.50 you get a GK Strike Squad (which makes two Kill Teams) and the rules. Obviously this doesn’t include all the sunk costs of paints and airbrushes etc but this would also be a relatively cheap way to start this side of the hobby too. Comparing that start up cost to my other hobbies it’s really good. It’s two rounds of golf (one if you’re hiring clubs) on your own. Don’t even get started on how much of a bicycles GBP62.50 gets you.

My only real query for this is who it is aimed at. It’s too complex to be a starter game and it’s too different to 40K to be a gateway game. Maybe it’s a grown ups lunch time game (although that’s 100% not my boogie).

Anyway, without an army I’ll never know, right? ONWARDS!
